Ever since I can remember, I was told what to do in life, most of us were. We were told get up, eat your breakfast, go to school, come home, do your homework, take a bath , eat dinner, go to bed. These systematic ways that have also been established in our adulthood : graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get married. Most were told the goal in life is to get a good job, a career so you can integrate into the world as a professional with at least some status. But WHO told us that? Where did that come from? Society? Our parents? These were my thoughts as I was reading my bible this morning. That is when I realized I’VE BEEN PROGRAMMED. In Hebrews 2:12 MESSAGE Bible, Jesus says “Even I live by placing my trust in God.” So where did we get this idea that we can get up everyday and make choices for ourselves without consulting with God?
I began thinking about choices I have made in the past that didn’t bring forth favorable consequences. Had I consulted with God about this? Did I pray for wisdom or guidance in the matter of such and such? And many times I realized, I did not. Most times I did what I was programmed to do : be responsible, sensible. Taking a job for more money was responsible. Buying a house, a car, move here, move there, join this organization, start this business. All good things, but…are they all God breathed. Oftentimes they are not and that is when programming kicks in and the consequences of our actions/choices/decisions kick us in the behind.
